Hey, I’m Jude and this is a bit about me…
Hey Jude Designs came about after I’d closed my store “Something for Doris” after 11 years in Kembla Street, Wollongong NSW to hit the refresh button of my life.
Back tracking a little…I owned Flame Tree Music (CD music stores) in Westfield Warrawong and Dapto in the 90’s, then in the early 2000’s I moved my Warrawong store to Wollongong and added a cafe…called Flame Tree Music Cafe located on Lower Crown St (next door to Lee & Me). After a few years there, I had my son and sold the cafe to have a little break before I opened Something for Doris in 2006.
Something for Doris was a vintage style clothing, shoes and accessories store named after my English Bull Terrier Doris. She came to the shop with me and all of Wollongong knew her. I really loved my store, my customers and my Doris. I am a crazy dog lady so I created the annual Vintage themed event called The Vintage Ball for Doris to raise money for dog rescue. In 2012 I developed my own range of retro/vintage inspired clothing and sold it successfully instore and online. After I closed the doors of SFD in Nov 2017, I rested with the seed planted for the reinvention of my clothing brand.
So one day I was waiting for a coffee at North Beach Kiosk and the barista sang…Hey Jude, by the Beatles over the micophone to let me know my coffee was ready. That night it popped into my mind, that it was the perfect name for my new label.
Hey Jude Designs is an extention of what I began in my store: a range of modern retro style clothing that women love to wear. In creating my range, I reflect on the relationships I have with great women who shopped at Something for Doris, who love to feel individual and confident in my clothes. Hey Jude Designs uses the strong, feminine, stylish shapes of the 60’s and 70’s.
I love styling my clothing and giving hints and advice on how to wear it, so feel free to pm me for advise or guidance or even reassurance that you nailed it on FB or Instagram or follow my blog hjstyle for my ideas and style tips.
